J26 Mahilamukha Jataka -- The Elephant and the Thieves

Jataka 26 Mahilamukha Jataka The Elephant and the Thieves

[MORAL Poor judgement and unwise association]

[READABILITY Intermediate I]

In this story, the Buddha warns us about listening to the wrong people and following their evil ways.

Who shouldn’t we associate with? An immoral person who neither feel shameful nor fearful, who does not keep the basic five precepts and who will do evil things. We should not associate with these fools since they will probably impose their influence on us.

On the other hand, we should listen to wise people with the right view and follow their ways. By doing this, we will avoid creating bad kamma for ourselves. We can avoid hurting ourselves, other people, animals and other beings.
