Pv2.12 Kannamundapetivatthuvannana - The Female Magical-Palace Ghost at Himalaya

MORAL
Five precepts: No sexual misconduct
This story describes how Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, while traveling through the Himalayan mountains, encountered a female magical-palace ghost and her five hundred servants. He asked them what kamma they had done in the past to be reborn as female magical-palace ghost.
The female magical-palace ghost was reborn in that form because she had committed adultery, told lies, and swore to conceal her wrongdoings. As a result of both her good and bad kamma, she was reborn as a magical-palace ghost who enjoyed pleasures during the day but was bitten by a vicious dog at night.
Though the five hundred servants had not committed adultery, why were they reborn as her servants? What kind of suffering did they endure for their unwholesome deeds?
Later, Venerable Mahāmoggallāna told the Buddha about his encounter with the female magical-palace ghost in the Himalayan mountains. The Buddha then delivered a sermon to the public based on this cause and condition. The listeners were filled with fear, gave up their evil deeds, and practiced good deeds frequently. As a result of their good deeds, they were destined to be reborn in the heavens.
